Document Description
Emergency permit for the detonation of unexploded ordnance (items listed below) stored at NBVC Point Mugu. The items to be detonated were retrieved by Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) personnel after being located by the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department and NBVC Point Mugu. Upon retrieval EOD personnel determined that the items were of a naval classification "level 2" response, meaning that the unexploded ordnance was of "imminent and substantial endangerment to human health or the environment." Also, the Navy was in possesion of additional ordnance that was deemed to be of a level 2 nature. This determination was based on the fact that the items have been outside of military storage and control measures, which raises question about their explosive filler and component stability.
