Document Description
Sonoma Resource Conservation District (RCD) will implement a sediment reduction project at the Pepperwood Preserve property, located at 2130 Pepperwood Preserve Road, in Santa Rosa, California.The project consists of repairing five headcuts along a gully and two tributaries. The gully was damaged during the Tubbs Fire in 2017 which contributed to the headcuts. The gully is an ephemeral headwater
to a tributary to Mark West Creek. The area surrounded the gully consists primarily of grassland and is used for rotational grazing. The project will utilize five different repair methodologies in order to act as a demonstration project.

The project is addressing sediment reduction in a gully and enhancing the wildlife area with native plantings. 15304 states Class 4 consists of minor public or private alterations in the condition of land, water, and/or vegetation which do not involve removal of healthy, mature, scenic trees except for forestry or agricultural purposes. 15333 states Class 33 consists of projects not to exceed 5 acres in size to assure the maintenance, restoration, enhancement, or protection of habitat for fish, plants, or wildlife provided. The project includes stream or river bank stabilization with native vegetation or other bioengineering techniques, the primary purpose of which is to reduce or eliminate erosion and sedimentation.
