                Document Description
            
            San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) proposes to permanently legislate transit improvements that were partially implemented under a temporary emergency basis to respond to COVID-19 conditions (Planning Case no. 2020-005472ENV). The project would establish a transit lane on 7th Street between Mission and Stevenson streets by converting a travel lane to a bus and taxi only lane. The striping on 7th Street would be adjusted to facilitate the transition between the proposed transit lane and existing transit lane. In addition, a northbound ‘right lane must turn right’ would be established on 7th Street at Townsend Street. The project would establish a transit lane on 8th Street between Market and Bryant streets by converting a travel lane to a bus and taxi only lane..

                            This project in its approved form has been determined to be exempt from environmental review because it is eligible for a Statutory Exemption
per Public Resources Code section 21080.25 since it would implement a transit prioritization project; would convert general purpose travel lanes to transit and taxi only lanes; will be carried out by a public agency; is located within an existing public right of way in an urbanized area; would not add physical infrastructure that increases new automobile capacity on existing rights-of-way; would not require the demolition of affordable housing units; would not exceed a cost of one hundred million dollars ($100,000,000) in 2020 United States dollars; and would be constructed by San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency Field Shops and would not require the use of contractors for labor.
