The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) using state funds, proposes to install two gateway monuments at the Trinity County borders along State Route (SR) 299 in Trinity County and two gateway monuments along SR 36 in Plumas County near the town of Chester. The two gateway monuments along SR 299 will welcome drivers to Trinity County at postmile (PM) 0.51 and 72.06. The gateway monuments along SR36 will be installed in the west and east ends of the town of Chester at PM 6.35 and 11.10 respectively. The gateway monuments will beautify the roadside area and welcome drivers. Trinity County and the town of Chester do not have any gateway monuments. Both Trinity County and Chester could benefit from roadside beautification. Gateway monuments encourage traffic calming and for the traveling public to stop and visit the community.
