                            14 CCR 15301 “Existing Facilities”
The goal of this project is to enable the electrification of industrial processes with low-cost sulfur electric thermal energy storage and adopting staff's determination that this action is exempt from CEQA. The proposed research and development activities and pilot testing will validate the capability of molten sulfur thermal energy storage to store electricity and discharge heat for various industrial applications including process heat, cooling, and electricity generation. This project is categorically exempt from CEQA because the project activities are limited to the installment of an energy storage device that will be within a contained pre-existing facility that will be used to test the technology. There are no planned modifications to the facility and the project involves no expansion of existing or former use of the site. There will be no excessive generation of noise or odors anticipated, and no hazardous waste involved.
