Document Description
The Sierra Nevada Conservancy would provide funding for the Lassen Land and Trails Trust to conduct planning and due diligence activities for a potential future conservation easement to be placed on approximately 6,083 acres of working agricultural, timber, and open space land. The Project is located entirely on private lands north of Eagle Lake in north-central Lassen County and adjacent to lands managed by the Lassen National Forest and the Bureau of Land Management. Specific actions include obtaining a title report, draft conservation easement, appraisal, legal review, purchase and sale agreement, draft monitoring plan, baseline documentation report, environmental site assessment, and any additional needs to prepare the property for a potential placement of a conservation easement. The potential future easement would ensure that the property is not subdivided or developed and will continue to be managed with the desired balance between working land and wildlife habitat. The project fits within larger goals to maintain working agricultural lands and active timber lands in Lassen County and to conserve open space, and will serve as a wildlife corridor between the adjacent federally managed lands and makes it an important resource in the face of climate change and conversion of working landscapes to developed rural lands.
