Document Description
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) issued an Emergency Director’s Order to address damage caused by a sudden wildfire that broke out between Willits and Ukiah on highway 101 from PM 42 to PM 43.5, burning up a half-mile stretch of road and ROW. Work is scheduled to begin September 7, 2022 and last approximately 60 days. Excavation depths will be no more than from 2 - 4 feet. The culverts, located at PM 42.77 and 42.9, are located in flat areas and do not indicate natural stream channels but do appear to convey water during and after rain events. The scope of work includes traffic control, guardrail repair, embankment stabilization, drainage repair/replacement, erosion control, and right of way (ROW) fence replacement. The purpose of this project is to repair the affected drainages and restore the roadway to pre-damage condition. Soil will not be transported off site. This project is needed to prevent or mitigate the loss or impairment of life, health, property, and essential public services. All work will be within the Caltrans right of way.
