Document Description
The project is limited to the annual reconstruction of a seasonal partial wing dam within Trinity River for the purpose of maintaining a summer swimming hole for Ripple Creek Cabins. The partial wing dam spans approximately 35 linear feet and is approximately 4 feet in depth after construction. A backhoe is used to move large rocks, as needed.
Each year in the summer months, local river rock is assembled to construct the partial wing dam. No materials are introduced to or removed from the channel of Trinity River, nor is the channel nor its stream flows ever blocked. Roughly two-thirds of the channel’s width remains opens, allowing flows to bypass the dam and fish to pass. High flows from precipitation in fall and/or winter topple the rock dam annually and disperse the rock to a more natural gradient.
